Epoxy resin insulator X-ray inspection systems
In recent years, ultra-high voltage, long-distance and large-capacity power transmission technologies have developed rapidly, which has placed higher demands on the insulation performance of power equipment. The trend of equipment miniaturization and compactness has made the importance of insulation performance even more prominent. Epoxy resin is easy to be molded, has stable chemical properties, good heat resistance, excellent mechanical toughness and electrical insulation performance. Therefore, it is widely used in the insulation of high-voltage electrical equipment.
Epoxy resin insulating components mainly include casting type and impregnation type. The former is mainly applied in motors, electrical appliances, high-voltage switches, and dry-type transformers, etc. For instance, the epoxy casting basin-type insulator plays a role of supporting the current-carrying busbar, providing electrical insulation and isolating gas compartments in gas insulated switchgear (Gas Insulated Switchgear, GIS). The latter is mainly used in motor windings, insulating rods, and dry-type bushings, etc. For example, the main body of the insulating rod is made of fiber-reinforced epoxy resin composite material, which is used to transfer motion from the grounded part to the high potential part to achieve the connection and disconnection of electrical circuits.
Once defects occur in epoxy insulation components, seriously threatening the safe and stable operation of the power system.

X-ray Technology has the advantage of enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of detection, and also can visualizationally show the defects such as cracks, delamination, and bubbles in GIS epoxy insulation components, these defects are the potential risks for pulse waveforms, breakdown voltages, and partial discharge.
